Healthy eating in school

Adult Program

We believe that health and wellness is a right, no matter who you are or where you live. That’s especially true for people in underserved communities who suffer the highest rates of obesity and obesity related diseases.

Our adult wellness program is based on the principle that everyone should have access to effective nutrition education. It was launched in the South Bronx in 2009 and has grown since then. Created by experts in the field of health education, it’s six weeks long and available in both English and Spanish.

Each session is led by a medical professional and classes are limited to ten participants, so everyone gets individual attention. We also cook together in fun, hands-on cooking classes.

Some of the topics include:

  • What is healthy eating?
  • How to eat healthy on a budget
  • How food impacts our bodies
  • Myths and facts
  • Getting your kids to eat well

Over the years, our program has successfully impacted thousands of lives. We constantly hear from people who say they’re eating healthier, losing weight and even coming off their diabetes medication. We love hearing that!

Once participants have completed the program, we do everything we can to ensure long-term success. Graduates become part of the Ironwill community where they stay connected to us and to one another. Through ongoing workshops and events, we keep everyone engaged in their health, ensuring they get the support they need. After all, it takes a community!
